Foraging Edible Mushrooms in Urban Parks

Chanterelles are perhaps the most desired of the choice edible mushrooms growing in the PNW. They will also surprise you with their abundance, as well as the unusual places you can find them.

To that end, I have found and foraged Chanterelles in five separate Seattle parks, with the most prolific locations being Seward Park and Discovery Park. These parks are host to other good edible mushrooms, such as shaggy parasol Chlorophyllum rhacodes and Oyster mushrooms Pleurotus sp. You can find even more exotic edibles such as Lion’s Mane (or similar Herecium sp.) and Candy Caps Lactarius rubidus)
